Alliance Selection: Etiquette and Strategy
Gracious Acceptance. Pick Lists. How to handle the most stressful 30 minutes of the competition.
Alliance Selection: Etiquette and Strategy
The Etiquette
- “Team 12344 graciously accepts.” Say it loud. Shake hands.
- The Decline: If you decline, you cannot be picked by anyone else. Only decline if you are a Captain and want to form your own alliance (or if the strategy is completely broken).
The Strategy: The Pick List
Do not make your list 5 minutes before selection. Make it the night before.
- List A: Captains (Robots you want to partner with if you are #1).
- List B: Supports (Robots you want as a 2nd pick).
Scorched Earth
If you are Rank #1 and Rank #2 is unbeatable… Pick Rank #2. Break up the super-team. If they decline, they can’t play with anyone else. (Note: This is legal, but controversial. Use with caution).
Conclusion
Be professional. Be prepared. The microphone is on. The whole room is watching.
