Decoding Defense: Rules Every Driver Must Know

How to play aggressive defense without getting a Yellow Card. Pinning, blocking, and trapping rules explained.

Decoding Defense: Rules Every Driver Must Know

Defense wins championships. Penalties lose them. You must walk the fine line.

The Rules

  1. Pinning: You cannot trap a robot for more than 5 seconds. You must back away for 3 feet before re-engaging.
    • Exploit: Pin for 3 seconds. Back off. Pin again. Disrupt their flow constantly.
  2. Blocking: You cannot intentionally block the goal while inside the goal zone (usually protected).
    • Exploit: Block them in the “transit” lane BEFORE they get to the goal zone.
  3. Tipping: Never tip a robot. That is a Red Card (Disqualification).

The “Box Out”

Don’t ram them. Just stand in their way. If they want to go Left, be on the Left. Make them drive around you. This adds 5-10 seconds to their cycle time.

Conclusion

A good defender doesn’t need to be fast. They just need to be annoying. Read the Game Manual Part 2 verbatim.
