Mastering the Motif: Strategic Scoring
In DECODE, scoring a pixel is worth 5 points. Scoring a “Motif” (Pattern) is worth 10 Bonus Points. You are throwing away points if you ignore the pattern.
The Patterns
The game requires specific sequences on the backdrop:
Purple - Green - PurpleGreen - Purple - Green
Strategy 1: The “Role Player”
One robot only hunts Purple. The other only hunts Green. They communicate: “I placed Purple. You place Green next to it.”
- Pros: Efficient intake (only looking for 1 color).
- Cons: Requires insane coordination.
Strategy 2: The “Stacker”
Intake pairs: One Purple, One Green. Place them together. This guarantees you are always building towards a Motif.
The Trap
Don’t break a Motif to score a fast point. Placing a Green on top of a Green might “block” a future Motif location. Plan your board.
Conclusion
Points per second (PPS) determines the winner. Motifs double your PPS. Do the math.
