Material Guide: PETG

The best of both worlds. Combining the ease of PLA with the durability of ABS.

Material Guide: PETG

PETG is the material used in water bottles. It is the “Goldilocks” filament for FTC.

Why it Rocks

  1. Printability: Prints almost as easily as PLA (no enclosure needed).
  2. Durability: It is ductile. It will bend a lot before it breaks. It doesn’t shatter like PLA.
  3. Heat Resistance: Better than PLA (80°C), worse than ABS.

The Downside: Stringing

PETG is “gooey”. It tends to leave fine strings (cobwebs) on your prints. You need to tune your retraction settings.

Verdict

If you only buy one roll of filament for your entire season, buy PETG. It works for mounts, claws, structural brackets, and everything in between.
