Spindexer Science: Vertical Designs

Space saving and gravity fed. Why the vertical 'Revolver' style indexer is perfect for compact robots.

Spindexer Science: Vertical Designs

If the Horizontal Spindexer is a Dinner Plate, the Vertical Spindexer is a Revolver Cylinder. It holds game pieces in a vertical Ferris Wheel.

The Advantage: Compactness

The vertical design takes up very little floor space (X and Y axis). It only uses vertical space (Z axis). This leaves the sides of your robot open for:

  • Swerve Modules.
  • Battery Mounts.
  • Electronics.

The physics

  • Gravity Feed: When the “chamber” rotates to the bottom, the artifact falls into the shooter naturally.
  • Speed: It cycles incredibly fast.

The Complexity

Building a reliable vertical indexer is hard.

  • You need to fight gravity on the way up.
  • If an artifact falls out, it might jam your drivetrain.

Verdict

If you are building a Tiny Robot (e.g., 14x14 inches), Vertical is your only choice. It is space-efficient dominance.
