What Do Robots Eat? (How Batteries Work)

Robots don't eat pizza. So where do they get their energy to run and jump?

What Do Robots Eat? (How Batteries Work)

When you are hungry and have no energy, you might eat an apple or a slice of pizza. But what happens when a robot gets tired?

Robots ‘eat’ Electricity! Instead of stomachs, robots have Batteries. A battery stores electrical juice that flows through wires like water flowing through pipes. This electricity goes into the motors, making them spin, and into the brain, helping it think.

When the battery is empty, the robot has to go to sleep by plugging into a wall charger, just like your tablet or phone!

Learning how to wire batteries safely is a huge part of being on a FIRST® Robotics team!
